Plants and Supplies

$20 minimum order for shipping
When ordering supplies and animals, please place two separate orders. They will ship separately and need separate shipping charges.

Shipping of supplies is a flat rate $10 for as many supplies or plants as you want. Please read more info on shipping here.

I sell the supplies below as a convenience for people who need small quantities or for people just getting started. If you want to buy the same supplies in bulk, make your own fruit fly medium, etc.., you can download my beginner's care sheet (this is a .pdf file). The care sheet lists my sources and catalog numbers for supplies. See how to build your terrarium here. The plants are from my own terrariums and aquariums. I don't buy them from nurseries just to resell them, I only sell my extras. So they are not always available. The Riccia is in super high demand and it grows relatively slowly, so since I can't meet the demand at all, I am only selling it along with frog orders. And actually, right now, I'm completely out! It is hard to find, but aquabid.com is a good place to start.

Terrarium Kit:

This kit requires that you have your own tank, top, and light. The kit is just for the innards! It includes enough clay balls for a 2" layer on the bottom of a 10 gallon tank. A piece of fiberglass screen cut to size to cover the clay balls. Enough cocofiber for a 2" layer on top of the screen. An order of java moss, a cocohut, and two assorted plants. Java moss can be exchanged for 3 portions of riccia.

If you have a larger tank, calculate how many kits you need to fill it here. Instructions are also here. When you check out, let me know the size of tank so I can cut the screen to the right size.

AQUARIUM OR TERRARIUM

Java moss. An attractive aquarium plant that is great for young fish to hide in or for raising shrimp. I also use this a lot as ground cover in my terrariums. Just pull it apart and spread it thinly around your terrarium.

sold out.

AQUARIUM OR TERRARIUM

Riccia fluitans. Great floating plant in aquariums. Can also be tied to driftwood with fishing line. The top picture is Riccia growing as a floating plant in an aquarium. I also use this a lot as ground cover in my terrariums. There is a huge demand for this plant in terrariums but it is really hard to find. I tried growing my own and couldn't come close to keeping up with everybody's requests. So I have finally bit the bullet and ordered a bunch of it from a plant supplier. This is the first thing I've offered on my site that is not born/grown in my own home. I apologize, but it's not cheap either. If you don't want to get it from me, you can also try azgardens.com or aquabid.com. To use this as a ground cover in your terrarium, just pull it apart and spread it thinly around your terrarium. It doesn't spread from where you place it, so it takes quite a bit. You just spread it thinly over an area and it will fill in. One portion would probably fill a 4" x 4" or maybe a 6" x 6" region. Mist it every day and keep it moist until it really takes hold. There are pics of this process on my "building terrariums" page. Each portion comes in a little plastic cup, shown to the left, with some keys for size reference.

Commonly known as an aquarium plant, Anubias barteri actually grows much better in terrariums. It looks really nice in terrrariums.

Salvinia natans. Great floating plant for fry to hide in. Very easy to remove, unlike duckweed. The top picture is from the top and the bottom is from the bottom. Some close relatives of this plant are on the federal noxious weed list. This plant is not on that list, but it would still be best not to put in ponds or otherwise let it out of your aquarium.
